Couscous (6:17 minutes)

2019 – Media: 8mm film transferred into digital, recording

On the right side of a split screen we have an assembly of family footage shot in Tripoli in the early ‘60s, while my father’s voice over explains his couscous recipe, in Italian.  On the left side of the screen we have a text in English. The text is not the translation of my father’s recipe into English, but rather a decoding of it. Using an imaginary dictionary, I translate his culinary love into a different conversation.
